The Microsoft Surface Book 3 release date has not yet been officially announced by the company at the moment. However, recent leaks giving more details about the gadget’s specs and features seem to suggest that the high-end laptop is about to hit the market soon.
Energy Star certifications suggest Intel’s Ice Lake-U processors
One of the Surface Book 3 leaks came from the Windows 10 powered laptop’s certification by Energy Star, according to Forbes. Based on the data available, the publication speculates that it could be powered by Intel’s Ice Lake-U processors.
The Energy Star certifications are for the high-end variants of both the 13-inch and the 15-inch version of the Microsoft Surface Book 3. The documents reveal that both devices will be equipped with 32GB of Ram and will sport Intel’s Core-i7 processor.
The certifications only revealed that the Surface Book 3 will have Core-i7 processors. However, Forbes argued that given their listed speed, it looks like the gadget will use Intel’s Ice Lake-U processors. The same chipsets are used in the Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3, which were launched last year.
FCC filing suggests Wi-Fi 6 feature
Meanwhile, a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing revealed another feature of the upcoming device. According to Laptopmag, data from the filing suggests that the Surface Book 3 will have feature Wi-Fi 6 connectivity as it mentioned the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 adapter.
It was not actually mentioned in the filing that it is for the Surface Book 3 as the gadget was merely identified as Model number 1899. By eliminating Microsoft’s upcoming gadgets, the publication eventually concluded that Model number 1899 refers to Surface Book 3.
There was already an FCC filing for the Surface Go 2 that made its round online earlier so the recent filing isn’t for that gadget. Laptopmag also argued that it probably isn’t for the Surface Pro 8 since it won’t be out for several months. That leaves the Surface Book 3 as the likely gadget referred to by the document especially since the tests are conducted in both laptop and tablet modes.
RAM and GPU options
The document also revealed that there will be a 13.5-inch and a 15-inch model for the Surface Book 3, which likewise confirms Forbes’ report. Buyers can choose between 12GB or 32 GB of RAM as well as Nvidia GPU options for the device’s graphics card.
At the moment, Microsoft has not yet confirmed a release date for the Surface Book 3. However, many believe that it will likely hit the shelves in June this year.
