Microsoft and Razer are reportedly working together to release a set of PC peripherals that are intended to be used with Xbox One consoles.
This is not the first time PC peripherals have been considered to be used on the Xbox One. However, reports have recently found a more solid evidence that this plan is slowly making progress.
Windows Central was the first to report on the Xbox-supported peripherals after obtaining some documents released during a Microsoft-Razer presentation before an audience of game developers.
According to the report, Microsoft and Razer exclusively dished out details on the adjustments developers need to apply to Xbox One titles to support Razer's Chroma RGB lighting program. The companies have also reportedly demonstrated how games like “Overwatch” and “Dota 2" will be played on the Xbox One with this additional peripheral support.
Some of the Razer devices that Microsoft suggested could be a cool addition to Xbox One controls include the Razer Turret lapboard and the BlackWidow Chroma V2 keyboard, which has up to 16.8 million backlight color options
Microsoft also listed some guidelines and sort of requirements for developers once the keyboard and mouse support are added to the Xbox One.
The proposed mouse controls include horizontal and vertical wheel movements and support for up to five buttons. So, developers could be adding some codes that will make Xbox One games recognize these controls.
Meanwhile, gamepad support will still be a general requirement for all Xbox One video games despite the expected addition of mouse and keyboard controls. Notably, Microsoft plans to only allow the use of one mouse and one keyboard at the same time while multiple gamepads can still be utilized at once.
Microsoft has also seen that the use of PC peripherals on the Xbox One can somehow provide gameplay advantages. With that, the company “highly suggested” that the game developers should also take into account the use of PC peripherals in matchmaking players.
So far, Microsoft has discussed the prospect of adding mouse and keyboard support for Xbox One consoles at some events even back in 2017. However, it is still unclear when will this become a reality for gamers.
