Argentine President Javier Milei met Community of Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso and urged Spaniards to vote out the governing Socialists during an Oct. 21 visit ahead of Spain’s Nov. 29 election.
The Community of Madrid said their meeting lasted about two hours and covered international politics and domestic issues in both countries. An earlier EconoTimes report on the planned Ayuso meeting said the appointment was still unsettled on Oct. 20, citing El País.
Argentina’s presidency separately reported that Milei met Vox officials and greeted Vox President Santiago Abascal by video call while Abascal was on the campaign trail.
At Nueva Economía Fórum, Milei called Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez an “unpresentable dictator” and urged Spaniards to “kick the Socialists out,” according to the event archive. RTVE’s video coverage also records the insult about Sánchez.
Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Milei’s remarks. The ministry called it “unworthy” for a leader of a “sister nation” to make such a visit and said his visits had the “sole aim of trying to foster a climate of polarization and violence.” That statement was the ministry’s characterization of Milei’s intent.
A Buenos Aires Times opinion column argued that Milei’s international presence can raise the profile of far-right groups while also prompting political action from the left. The column offered that as analysis, not as a measured assessment of the election’s likely result.
Royal Decree 806/2026 sets the official campaign period for Nov. 13-27, with the general election on Nov. 29. The campaign window begins more than three weeks after Milei’s Madrid appearance and ends two days before the vote.
