Mitsubishi Motors unveiled an electrified minivan concept teaser, creating a buzz ahead of the Japan Mobility Show 2023. Speculation arises over its features and connection to existing models.
The darkened image reveals only the frontal view of the car, showcasing its distinctive single-box proportions and hinting at a generous ground clearance. Noteworthy design elements include T-shaped LEDs, an illuminated Mitsubishi emblem, and what appears to be a pop-up roof.
The press release accompanying the teaser image was filled with marketing fluff, provoking curiosity and speculation among industry insiders. While details remain scarce, Mitsubishi confirms that the upcoming vehicle boasts electrification to some extent and features all-wheel steering.
Surprisingly, the front passenger seat faces the back, suggesting a unique seating arrangement. With the number of people walking in front of the vehicle, it is speculated that the minivan will be a spacious 6-seater, offering ample cargo space for luggage and outdoor gear.
Promising "peace of mind in any weather or road conditions," it is highly likely that the vehicle will offer an impressive all-wheel drive capability. Mitsubishi also said that it hopes that this electrifying new vehicle will inspire people to "try new things."
The press release also mentions Mitsubishi's renowned models, such as the Pajero, the Delica D:5, and the Outlander PHEV. This fuels speculation that the upcoming concept vehicle could combine elements from these models, promising excellent off-road capabilities, a spacious and comfortable interior, and a battery system capable of powering appliances off the grid.
Mitsubishi recently announced 16 new production models scheduled to be released over the next five years. Among the forthcoming models, two minivans are expected - one with a combustion engine and another featuring a self-charging hybrid powertrain. However, the teaser image likely represents a concept rather than a production vehicle, suggesting that it may not directly relate to the models mentioned earlier.
The highly-anticipated vehicle will be revealed during the press day on October 25 before the Japan Mobility Show 2023 takes place at the Tokyo Big Sight from October 28 to November 5. Mitsubishi's chosen motto for this year's exhibition, "awaken the adventurous spirit within you," indicates the possibility of additional off-road-prepared concepts based on existing Mitsubishi models.
