Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma launched the Lunglei Gen-AI Mission on Friday, Nov. 6, a free course designed to teach school students about AI tools and their uses.
The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that the mission aims to reach more than 5,500 students across 80 schools. Those figures describe intended reach, not a count of students who have completed training.
The Mizoram Directorate of Information & Public Relations said CodeYogi Foundation prepared 30 free video modules, each about an hour long. Students can work through the lessons on individual schedules, with teachers guiding their progress. The course covers AI, commonly used AI platforms and their applications, and is designed to encourage constructive use while helping students recognize potential risks.
Preparations began before the launch. At an Oct. 8 meeting led by Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann, Lunglei officials discussed selecting schools, orienting teachers and getting the program ready, the state directorate said.
PTI reported that the district administration is overseeing delivery, with the District Education Office and CodeYogi Foundation carrying out the program. PTI described CodeYogi's contribution as corporate social responsibility (CSR) work and said Mizoram established a CSR Cell to attract corporate support for development projects.
At the launch, Lalduhoma said, “There is no reason why Mizoram cannot become a digital state,” PTI reported. PTI also reported that he hopes other districts will eventually adopt the initiative, without announcing a date or commitment for expansion.
