A Sanborn, NY mother was shocked to find blood in her 4-year-old daughter's Burger King kids' meal, prompting health concerns and a response from the fast-food chain.
Sanborn Mother Discovers Blood in Burger King Meal, Sparking Health Concerns and Corporate Response"
Tiffany Floyd, a resident of Sanborn, NY, was horrified to discover that a Burger King kids' meal she purchased for her 4-year-old daughter was covered in blood.
The unsettling discovery occurred around noon on Friday when Floyd visited the fast-food drive-through. Floyd recounted her shock, saying, “All I heard was, ‘Mom, I don’t want ketchup,’ so I grabbed her bag, thinking that they messed up our order again, and I looked and there was just blood all over her hamburger, all over the wrapper. I looked inside the bag; there’s blood on her toys, everything.” Floyd also noted that her meal had blood on it as well.
Upon realizing the severity of the situation, Floyd instructed her daughter to spit out her food and immediately contacted the Burger King location. The manager, Dan, informed her that a cook had cut his hand, resulting in blood contamination. The manager apologized and offered a refund if Floyd returned to the restaurant.
She was concerned about her daughter’s health, so Floyd called the pediatrician, who advised her to wait 30 days to test her child’s blood for potential diseases. The pediatrician also recommended regular follow-ups for a year. Floyd expressed frustration that the injured employee’s identity was not disclosed, arguing that direct testing of the employee might have prevented the need for her daughter to undergo multiple blood tests.
Burger King Addresses Blood Contamination Incident After Viral TikTok Sparks Health Department Inquiry
According to The Indian Express, Floyd also reported the incident to the Niagara County Department of Health. According to her, the health inspector spoke to the same manager, who admitted that the cook’s injury was severe but not initially considered problematic.
The incident gained traction online after Floyd shared her experience on TikTok, which garnered 1.8 million views. On July 27, Floyd received a response from Burger King’s corporate office, which promised to cover her daughter’s medical expenses. However, Floyd indicated that financial compensation alone was insufficient to address her daughter's emotional distress and potential need for psychological support.
In a statement, Burger King expressed its deep concern over the incident. The company confirmed that the blood contamination resulted from an injured team member who immediately stepped away from food preparation. The restaurant was temporarily closed for retraining and a thorough deep cleaning by an external company. Burger King assured the restaurant would reopen on July 29, with all employees compensated for lost shifts during the closure.
The Niagara County Department of Health has yet to respond to requests for further comment.
