Nestle made an announcement early this week and revealed that it is releasing a new kind of treat to chocolate lovers. The Swiss company stated that it will roll out the newest KitKat version that will be plant-based.
Nestle is bringing KitKat V, a bar of vegan chocolate, to the masses. It will have the same exact formula as the other KitKat chocolates but the ingredients will all be plant-based that is why it is called “vegan.”
KitKat’s newest version
The Switzerland-based multinational food company stated that it created the KitKat vegan chocolate to fulfill the wishes of fans around the world who are vegetarians. The company said that it is now making their wish come true this year.
"One of the most common requests we see on social media is for a vegan KitKat, so we're delighted to be able to make that wish come true,” Alexander von Maillot, Nestle’s head of confectionery said via press release. “I can't wait for people to be able to try this amazingly tasty new KitKat. This is a product for everyone who wants a little more plant-based in their life!"
Nestle revealed that KitKat V is alternative chocolate for people who only eat plant-based food. The vegan KitKat is actually just an addition to the company’s food alternatives to dairy as it already introduced goods made from coconut, almonds, pea, rice and oat. The company produced coffee creamers, non-dairy ice cream and more using these alternatives.
We couldn't keep it a secret any longer, so we're happy to say the rumours are true..

Vegan KitKat’s composition
As for the KitKat V, Nestle assured the consumers that it is a certified vegan that only uses 100% sustainable cocoa. Moreover, the bar was made using a rice-based formula as a substitute for milk and this was said to have taken two years to be developed. Other substitutes include soy or almonds.
"Taste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat," USA Today quoted Louise Barrett, head of Nestlé’s confectionery product technology center, as saying. "We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat."
Meanwhile, KitKat V will not be released worldwide but in several countries first. It will be available online and at official Nestle confectionery stores. Release in the U.S. will not be happening this year but later according to Nestle.
