The family of Malcolm X has filed a $100 million lawsuit against several U.S. agencies, including the CIA, FBI, and NYPD, alleging their involvement in the 1965 assassination of the iconic civil rights leader. The lawsuit, filed nearly 60 years after his death, seeks to uncover long-hidden truths about Malcolm X’s killing and hold these institutions accountable for their alleged roles in the conspiracy.
Decades-Old Questions Resurface
The assassination of Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little, has remained a contentious and unresolved chapter in U.S. history. He was gunned down on February 21, 1965, at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City during a speech, a tragedy that marked a significant turning point in the civil rights movement. While three men were convicted of the killing, questions about broader conspiracies and institutional involvement have lingered for decades.
Malcolm X’s family alleges that government agencies and law enforcement conspired to silence him as his influence grew within the civil rights and Black nationalist movements. They argue that the release of recently declassified documents has further implicated these agencies in a coordinated effort to target and ultimately assassinate the activist.
The Lawsuit’s Allegations
The $100 million lawsuit, filed by Malcolm X’s daughters, accuses the CIA, FBI, and NYPD of withholding critical evidence that could have exonerated the wrongfully convicted and exposed the true orchestrators of the assassination. The legal team plans to build its case using declassified documents, witness accounts, and newly uncovered evidence. Advocates for the family also hope the lawsuit will reignite public scrutiny of the assassination and force government transparency.
