DURHAM, N.C., Sept. 18, 2016 -- What happens when a beloved pet needs emergency veterinary care due to a car accident, a scuffle with another animal, or the ingestion of a toxic food or substance? New Hope Animal Hospital helps Durham and Chapel Hill pet owners in the event of veterinary emergencies six days a week.
Conveniently located for residents of both Durham and Chapel Hill, New Hope Animal Hospital offers emergency care to cats and dogs regardless of whether they have been seen as a patient here before. In a medical crisis, the animal hospital's experienced staff will administer immediate treatment to help ensure that the pet is stable until further treatment options may be discussed with the owner.
"Whenever possible, we ask that clients give us a phone call in advance of their arrival," explains Dr. Soren Windram. "This allows our staff to prepare appropriately for the pet's emergency treatment, and to schedule other pets’ treatments and procedures accordingly."
In an emergency, once the animal arrives, it is taken to the treatment area for triage and assessment. During that time, a technician speaks with the cat or dog owner to gather any pertinent medical history and details of the pet’s current condition. Owner observations are often very helpful in diagnosing the pet. If the pet’s condition is deemed to be critical, the team will alert a doctor to immediately begin treatment and administer any necessary life-saving drugs to stabilize the pet.
“We understand that cost is often a major consideration for owners whose pets are sick or injured,” says Dr. Windram. “We strive to work with our clients to provide their pets with care that fits within their budget but provides the greatest benefit for the animal.”
The staff of New Hope Animal Hospital is skilled and experienced in emergency situations. Dr. Windram previously practiced for six years at the local Durham Emergency and Critical Care Hospital before starting the current practice in 2003. New Hope’s practice manager, registered veterinary technician Ann Pagnotta, worked at the same emergency clinic for five years, while the support team has many years of combined experience in emergency and specialty veterinary care.
"Our goal is to help ensure the pet is getting the best treatment possible and that that his or her owner fully understands everything that's going on," continues Dr. Windram.
