People have been waiting for more tidbits about the upcoming title Red Dead Redemption 2 ever since it was announced last year. It was largely already assumed that the game was going to be a prequel to the first one, putting emphasis on the infamous gang that the first game’s protagonist was a part of. In a recent trailer, fans can see John Marston again, but in a much younger form.
As Comicbook.com notes, the revelation of a younger Marston pretty much sets the theory of the game being a prequel in stone. The iconic scars on the gunslinger’s face when he was sent after his former fellow gang members could still be seen as freshly made. It’s also revelatory of the kind of narrative that Rockstar is going for with the game that he was placed in such a vulnerable situation.
It’s worth pointing out that the Marston that will be in the prequel won’t likely be the same kind of person that players meet in the first game. The character joined Dutch’s gang during his teen years, so the story will likely put at least some emphasis on how he evolved to become one of the greatest gunfighters in a Western video game.
The trailer’s YouTube description also provides plenty more details as to what players can expect the plot of the game will be. In typical Rockstar fashion, it involves everything going wrong right from the get-go.
“After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him,” the description reads.
