Denver, Aug. 04, 2017 -- Editor’s Note: Photos from today’s announcement at Coors Field are posted here.
Nursing moms now have the option of a quiet, relaxing place to breastfeed or pump at all of Denver’s downtown pro sports venues as a result of UCHealth’s partnerships with the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos. The sports organizations today joined their official health care partner UCHealth in announcing the brand new Mamava nursing suites being installed in the main concourses at Coors Field and Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
UCHealth’s recent purchase and installation of the air-conditioned lactation suites makes Denver the first and only city in the country to offer nursing suites in all downtown professional sports venues. UCHealth also purchased and installed the lactation suite located in the concourse at Pepsi Center, home to the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets.
“UCHealth’s commitment to improving lives extends beyond the doors of our hospitals and clinics,” said Manny Rodriguez, UCHealth chief marketing and experience officer. “Our investment in nursing suites with our partners at all of Denver’s downtown professional sports venues makes it easier for nursing moms attending events – from games to concerts – to live extraordinary lives doing what they love, with their loved ones.”
Recognizing the need to support nursing moms visiting the venues and their employees, the sports teams collaborated with UCHealth to provide the clean and comfortable spaces to pump or nurse in private. Mamava designs solutions for nursing moms on the go – the lactation suite is a self-contained, mobile pod, with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump, and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is intended for individual use, but has plenty of room for mothers with diaper bags, babies, and other children in tow.
“The UCHealth Nursing Suites offer nursing moms who are wanting to enjoy activities outside the home a way to achieve their breastfeeding goals in a comfortable settting,” said Jessica Anderson, a midwife at UCHealth’s University of Colorado Hospital and director of CU Center for Midwifery. “Breastfeeding provides long-term health benefits for babies and their mothers, and the nursing suites are part of UCHealth’s dedication to support, educate and encourage families throughout the breastfeeding journey.”
The UCHealth Nursing Suite at Coors Field is located in the main concourse down the first base line, behind Section 114.
“Coors Field has always been a family friendly ballpark, and we are glad to be able to provide this benefit to the many young families who attend Rockies games,” said Kevin Kahn, vice president/chief customer officer, Ballpark Operations.
The UCHealth Nursing Suite at Sports Authority Field at Mile High will be located in the main concourse inside Gate 6. Fans attending Denver’s home preseason opener on Aug. 26 will be among the first to enjoy the great new amenity.
UCHealth’s Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies have both been designated Baby-Friendly Hospitals, meaning they have created the best possible environment for mothers to successfully breastfeed their babies. The UCHealth Nursing Suites are among several women’s health initiatives launched by UCHealth thanks to its partnerships with the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, and make Coors Field, Sports Authority Field at Mile High and Pepsi Center some of the most breastfeeding-friendly venues in Colorado.
UCHealth is an innovative, nonprofit health system that delivers the highest quality medical care with an excellent patient experience. UCHealth, the official partner of the Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets, combines Memorial Hospital, Poudre Valley Hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies, UCHealth Medical Group, Broomfield Hospital, Grandview Hospital and University of Colorado Hospital into an organization dedicated to health and providing unmatched patient care in the Rocky Mountain West. With more than 100 clinic locations, UCHealth pushes the boundaries of medicine, providing advanced treatments and clinical trials and improving health through innovation.
