Nexon Corp., a South Korean video game company, obtained a new license for its "Dungeon & Fighter Mobile" mobile game in China. The company secured its "banhao," which refers to the Chinese government issuing game service permit.
Types of Gaming Licenses
As per The Korea Economic Daily, insiders in the gaming industry revealed on Friday, Feb. 2, that the Chinese National Press and Publication Administration granted foreign game licenses to 32 foreign game titles. Specific types of licenses are issued depending on the classification of the game.
China issues the "Neizi" license for games developed by local companies, while those created by foreign firms are given the "Waizi" licenses. After a strict evaluation process, all game developers can get the permit.
Other Korean Game Developers that Earned Licenses in China
Nexon already received approval for its "Dungeon & Fighter Mobile" in 2017, but this new license differs from the first approval. Thus, it is assumed that the company is getting a new plate number for this particular approval.
At any rate, aside from Nexon, another South Korean gaming company, Neowiz Games was also able to secure its Waizi so its game could be released and played in the country. The company's license is said to be for its "Cats & Soup" mobile game, which was developed by Hidea, a local firm that was acquired by Neowiz in 2021.
Aju News reported that NetMarble also gained an appropriate permit for its "The King of Fighters All-Star" game title. It was developed by Netmarble Neo and published by Netmarble Games. Still, it was produced based on SNK Corporation's intellectual property rights (IP), the game's original creator.
