Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Finance said it released ₦4.04 billion in net severance funds for payment to 600 former Nigeria Airways Limited workers, part of efforts to settle long-standing obligations.
The ministry’s Oct. 19 notice put gross benefits for Batches 010 and 011 at ₦4,251,043,000.19. Deductions totaled ₦212,552,150.01, leaving ₦4,038,490,850.18 released for payment.
The release followed an ₦18 billion payment announced in September 2026 for 2,700 former workers across the first nine batches. The ministry said batch payments depend on verification of eligible beneficiaries and their records.
Premium Times and The PUNCH, citing a separate Oct. 20 ministry statement, reported that the ministry described the latest 600 beneficiaries as paid and put the cumulative count at 3,300 across 11 batches. The published Oct. 19 notice described the latest net sum as released for payment.
The PUNCH also reported that the ministry is checking claims from deceased employees’ next of kin against approved records before authorizing payments on those claims.
