“No Man’s Sky” is out and many are already raving about the awe-inspiring breadth and depth of the game. With such a huge playground, reviewers are overwhelmed by the simple fact that they feel just how small they are in such a vast universe. Hello Games director Sean Murray just announced that the “PlayStation 4 Neo” could offer an even more amazing experience thanks to the significantly more powerful console.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Murray said that the core experience of the game could be “fundamentally” different compared with current versions once the game has been brought over to the “PS4 Neo.”
"For our game, it's procedurally generated," Murray told the Daily Star. "So more powerful hardware doesn't just mean upgraded textures or a higher framerate. It means we can fundamentally change the experience. With more powerful hardware, we can have more trees, more leafs on those trees. The density or immersion of worlds, or new types of worlds could exist.”
As GameSpot noted, however, it is not a sure that that the game would even be available as a more powerful version on the “Neo.” Murray is simply saying that they theoretically could do it thanks to the higher specs of the console, but a million things could happen between now and then that could derail the process.
With “No Man’s Sky” already being hyped to high heavens since it was announced back in 2013, the last thing that the developers need is added pressure to beef up a game that allows players to visit 18 quintillion star systems. Besides, there are still a lot of updates that the game could host in its current form. Considering just how massive the Day-one patch was, it would be interesting to see just how far Murray and his team can take their procedurally-generated sandbox title.
