Nvidia has been cranking out some impressive GPUs recently, with its “GTX 1080” and “Titan X” revamp being some of the most tantalizing options for most customers. However, the graphics card maker saved its most monstrous offering yet; the “Quadro P6000.” This GPU is so powerful, only scientists and movie makers have an excuse to use it.
Nvidia introduced the product to the world during the Siggraph conference, which was held in California, PC Mag reports. The units are actually the “Quadro P5000” and the “Quadro P6000,” both of which are based on the “Quadro Pascal” platform.
With the “Quadro P6000” being the more powerful unit, the 3,840 CUDA cores that it has, along with 24GB of RAM, and clocking 12 teraflops of computing performance make for an impressive lineup of features. Unfortunately for the average gamer, the “P6000” is also a power hog, with a maximum consumption of 250W.
As such, only those who really need the extra juice will have any reason to actually get one of these, such as professionals working in the film industry or engineers who are trying to recreate accurate visuals. In terms of creating VR simulations, Tech Times notes that the GPU is perfect for producing some of the most “over-the-top visuals” imaginable.
Perhaps in the future, Nvidia can find a way to make power consumption a little more reasonable in order to meet the demands of an increasingly intense graphical gaming environment. At that point, perhaps even regular customers will be able to make use of the spectacular performance that the GPUs can offer.
With regards to the price, Nvidia has not released any details regarding how much the GPUs will cost. However, considering that the new “Titan X” has a price tag of $1,200, it’s safe to assume that the “Quadro P6000” would cost so much more.
