MONTERREY, Mexico, April 05, 2017 -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (NASDAQ:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 5.9% in March 2017, as compared to March 2016. Domestic traffic increased 6.0%, and international traffic rose 5.7%.
It should be noted that year-over-year comparisons are affected by the fact that the Holy Week vacation period occurred in March 2016 and will take place in April this year.
Of total March traffic, 98.4% was commercial aviation and 1.6% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in seven airports in March. The most noteworthy increases were Monterrey (+8.2%; +51,560 passengers), Chihuahua (+22.3%; +20,175), and Ciudad Juárez (+11.7%; +9,932). Monterrey traffic increased principally because of higher traffic volumes on the Mexico City and Guadalajara routes. Chihuahua increased traffic principally on its Mexico City route. Ciudad Juárez traffic increased principally because of higher volumes on its Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey routes.
During March, four domestic routes opened. Aeromar began flying the Culiacán- Guadalajara and Culiacán- Hermosillo routes; and TAR opened the Chihuahua-Querétaro and Zihuatanejo-Bajío routes.
International traffic increased in eight airports in March. The largest increases were in Mazatlán (+18.1%; +7,232 passengers), in large part because of increased traffic on Calgary, Winnipeg, and Dallas routes; and Zihuatanejo (+10.9%; +4,501) as a result of an increases in traffic on the Calgary and Vancouver routes.
The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in March decreased 3.6%. The number of domestic operations decreased 3.8%, and international operations decreased 2.0%.
