The much awaited Facebook’s Oculus Rift virtual reality headgear seems to be on track for its consumer launch. The Oculus team announced on Monday that Rift SDK 1.0 is shipping this week to developers with early builds of final Rift hardware.
“The Rift SDK 1.0 and runtime include features tied to the consumer product, so we’ve currently limited the release to developers putting final touches on launch titles”, the blog post read.
Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey tweeted that the manufacturing process is going well, and re-iterated that the headset is on track for its slated launch.
“Thrilled to share some news: Manufacturing continues to go well, and we are still on-target for an awesome Rift launch in Q1!” Luckey tweeted.
Although the price of the PC-based VR is not yet known, speculations suggest that it will cost more than $350, Gizmag reported. Also, earlier this year, Oculus revealed the recommended specs for the upcoming device, and it will require high-end parts like GPU and processor to maintain a consistent 90 fps while running two 1200x1080 displays.
“Preorders are coming soon after new year. Enjoy a stress-free holiday, we won’t launch preorders without warning!” Luckey tweeted.
