Oman has offered three mining concession areas covering 2,062 square kilometers to qualified local and international companies for exploration, aiming to attract investment and build a more integrated mining industry.
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals presented the areas in Sydney during the International Mining and Resources Conference + Expo (IMARC), scheduled for Oct. 27-29. Area 25-C spans 627 square kilometers, 25-F covers 830 square kilometers and 22-C covers 605 square kilometers.
The Ministry lists geological indicators for nickel and laterite ores in 25-C and 25-F, and manganese in 25-F. Area 22-C has indicators for copper, chromite and gold, as well as marble and basalt. The English-language Times of Oman account also lists manganese for 25-C, while the Arabic dispatch carried by the Oman News Agency (ONA) describes its indicator as “manganite.”
The areas are for exploration, geological surveys and resource assessments. The announcement does not name concession winners or confirm reserves; it says future mining projects would depend on technical and economic studies. The Ministry also seeks greater participation by Omani companies and small businesses, alongside more investment and technology use.
ONA carried remarks by Undersecretary Mohsen bin Hamad Al-Hadhrami. Times of Oman published an English rendering of one line: “Mineral resources alone do not create prosperity.”
Invest Oman says Oman Vision 2040 targets mining’s contribution to gross domestic product at 10% by 2040, up from 1.4% in 2020. ONA reported that mining-sector revenue rose 39% in 2025 from 2024 and that 28 mining concession areas were awarded over the preceding five years.
The Ministry directs interested companies to its Taqah platform for details on the opportunities and application requirements. It gave no application deadline or award timetable.
