Sultan Haitham bin Tarik began a four-day state visit to Britain on Monday, marking the first such trip by an Omani ruler since 1982 as Oman seeks broader cooperation, including investment.
Oman’s Foreign Ministry said the visit is intended to expand cooperation across several fields. The Diwan of Royal Court said Haitham and British officials plan to discuss developments affecting the region and wider world.
Britain’s royal household says King Charles III and Queen Camilla are scheduled to receive Haitham at Windsor Castle for engagements from Oct. 20-22. The trip began Monday, Oct. 19, according to Oman’s Foreign Ministry.
The delegation includes Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, deputy prime minister for economic affairs; Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik bin Taimur Al Said, deputy prime minister for defense affairs; and Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi.
Britain’s royal household dates the previous state visit by an Omani ruler to March 1982, when Sultan Qaboos bin Said visited Queen Elizabeth II. Haitham’s Windsor engagements are scheduled to begin Oct. 20.
