CHANDLER, Ariz., April 26, 2018 -- OnTrac, a logistics company specializing in delivery services in the Western United States, begins another year as a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay® Transport Partner in order to reduce their environmental footprint for a seventh consecutive year. With EPA’s SmartWay program, OnTrac is able to measure, benchmark, and improve freight transportation efficiency. Over the seven year history between OnTrac and SmartWay, OnTrac has reduced their total carbon emissions by 45 percent.

OnTrac joined the SmartWay initiative in 2012. In order to maintain the status as a SmartWay partner, OnTrac takes a number of items into consideration and performance data is submitted and evaluated each year. Some of the qualifications have to do with the type of trucks within the OnTrac fleet. All tractor models are 2013 or newer, and the engines are designated to meet U.S. EPA NOx/PM emission requirements. The tractors and trailers are equipped with drag reduction devices like fairing or panels. Mirrors and bumpers also have aerodynamic designs. All tires in the OnTrac fleet are Low Rolling Resistant (LRR) SmartWay certified and improve fuel economy by three percent.
In addition to the SmartWay partnership, OnTrac has found additional ways to reduce their environmental footprint. For example, in 2016 OnTrac began promoting a paperless billing feature, and has resulted in saving over 145,000 sheets of paper being mailed to customers. As for the facilities that OnTrac occupies, there is an energy savings of between 50 to 85 percent from using energy efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting as opposed to the standard incandescent lighting. Based on the LED lighting alone, the West Phoenix OnTrac facility has an approximate annual kilowatt hour (kWh) energy savings of over 344,000, which equates to annual greenhouse gas from over 580,000 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle.
“OnTrac understands that the future of our business is tied to the well-being of the planet and our local communities,” says OnTrac Corporate Fleet Manager John Day. “We concentrate on resource conservation, and consider the impact that our operations and facilities have on the environment. We continue to seek out new ways to reduce our footprint and to be an example within our industry.”
