‘One Piece’ chapter 973 shows what happened after Oden’s execution

Contrary to previous speculations, “One Piece” chapter 973 did not yet go back to the current timeline. Instead, it wrapped up Oden’s flashback by showing what happened after his execution.

“One Piece” chapter 973 is titled “Kozuki Clan” and opens with Oden playing with his kids Momonosuki and Hiyori. It’s probably back in the days when the family was still traveling all over the world with the pirates.

Oden also spoke highly of Zou and the Minks. “Zou and the Kozuki Clan were historically very linked,” the Daimyo said. “Minks are powerful warriors… Keep this in mind guys! When the time comes, Zou is the place to go.”

The Nine Red Scabbards were confused with Oden’s saying “when the time comes.” However, he refuses to elaborate.

It was also shown in “One Piece” chapter 973 that Oden already had a premonition that he will die. “It’s a beautiful piece, I want you to play it in my funeral,” he told Hiyori as she practiced her shamisen.

The scene then changed and shows the Nine Red Scabbards as they were pursued by Orochi’s men, perhaps after Oden pushed them away so they could escape. They were in a hurry to reach Oden’s Castle in Kuri which was already under siege by Kaido and his men.

Kaido got hold of Oden’s son Momonosuke. But the boy remained defiant and claimed he will one day be in charge of Wano while Kaido just laughed at him. “A dream, you really are a child,” the Yonko said. “And this thing is Oden’s son he will die burned in the castle.

He then threw the child back into the burning castle where it was shown that Toki was actually inside. The Nine Red Scabbards and Toki briefed them of a new plan. Kawamatsu fled with Hiyori as Toki activated her ability and sent Momonosuke along with the other Scabbard to the future. It appears that Toki might have perished as a result of casting her spell.

Back in his castle, Orochi demanded proof of the Scabbards’ death. It appears that he fears their vengeance should once of them be left alive.

“One Piece” 973 finally confirmed one of the series’ theories. It was revealed that Denjiro disguised himself as Kyoshiro and became Orochi’s bodyguard. Hiyori got separated from Kawamatsu but ended showing up at Kyoshiro’s place.

Kyoshiro revealed his identity as Denjiro to Hiyori but urged her not to divulge the matter to anyone. He also suggested that Hiyori change her name to Komurasaki as a precaution.
