‘One Piece’ chapter 978 release date, predictions, spoilers: A new character arrives and he could have an important role

There has been so much build-up to “One Piece” chapter 978 now because of the delay and because of the revelations from the previous installment. One thing seems to be certainly happening, and that is the introduction of a new character who might have an important role later in the story arc.

Chapter 977 ended in somewhat a cliffhanger with Kaido subtly announcing about his son. It has led to many theories and one that is very obvious is that he could be an all-new character set to debut in “One Piece” chapter 978.

It is quite intriguing, if the son is much like his father, that the unknown character is not the first ones to be at the banquet table to drink and party. This then led to the prediction for “One Piece” chapter 978 that Kaido’s son is a physically weak person or someone nothing like him to parallel the Momonosuke and Oden.

On that note, Kaido’s son might eventually relate to Momonosuke, who happens to be just arriving at Onigashima as Kanjuro’s captive. They will likely land in “One Piece” chapter 978 and if Momo shares some attributes with Kaido’s son, it is not far-fetched to see the latter help with the Kozuki heir’s escape in the near future.

However, there are also speculations that Kaido’s son could have already made cameo appearances a few hundred installments before “One Piece” chapter 978. One theory is that he could be the faceless character who instructed Jack to fetch Caesar before.

This suggestion also makes it very possible for Kaido’s son to be another stoic figure and not a weakling as others think. He might even be the mysterious “Ace” who has been mentioned before as part of the Beasts Pirates but has yet to be introduced completely. This could still mean that the new character could have an important role in the Wano arc, just not in favor of Luffy and his allies.

“One Piece” chapter 978 has been delayed for a while due to the changes in Shueisha’s publishing schedules. The company likely needed to make adjustments after a staff tested positive for coronavirus. The chapter is now slated to arrive on April 27 along with Weekly Shonen Jump’s double issue release.
