‘One Piece’ chapter 981 release date, spoilers, predictions: Luffy, Zoro go after Queen as Kid gets his revenge on Apoo

A massive fight has finally erupted in Onigashima, and this could become a full-on battle in “One Piece” chapter 981. With Eustass Kid very likely to keep Scratchmen Apoo preoccupied, Luffy and Zoro are left to worry about Queen as possibly the only real threat within the vicinity.

There are two potential fights to break out in “One Piece” chapter 981. The latest installment ended with Kid debuting his Punk Gibson attack shortly after Apoo demonstrated how powerful he can be with his Fighting Music ability.

While manga fans saw Kid pummeling Apoo with his giant metal arm, the latter can still recover. Note that chapter 980 was the first time Kid used Punk Gibson. While it was not the first time the manga showed Apoo’s music-related fighting ability, it was essentially the first time Apoo really showed what Fighting Music can do. Making it more impactful, Eiichiro Oda had Luffy and Zoro both in the receiving end of Apoo’s attacks and it neutralized them both immediately.

It is safe to assume that both Apoo and Kid have more surprises up their sleeves for their potential fight in “One Piece” chapter 981. Most fans, however, are certainly rooting for the latter to win. This is a significant match-up because it is going to be the first time Kid gets the chance to get his revenge on Apoo after his betrayal that caused devastating damages to his crew.

As for Luffy and Zoro’s case, they would have to fight a horde of Gifters and SMILE fruit users in “One Piece” chapter 981 before they could even reach Queen. It can be recalled that Queen promised to reward anyone who would capture and defeat the Straw Hats with a seat at the Tobi Roppo, which he also swore to vacate by defeating one of the Flying Six.

Earlier chapters of Wano arc showed Luffy and Zoro did not have much difficulty in defeating Gifters right away. But considering the number of Gifters charging at them, their fight with Queen is just one possibility in “One Piece” chapter 981, otherwise, fans might have to wait for the future chapters to see it happen.

The manga series has yet to go back to its regular schedule. For more than a month now, a new installment is released after two weeks as Oda’s team likely takes necessary precautions to stay safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This means “One Piece” chapter 981 will be released on June 7.
