The OnePlus 6T is due for release on Oct. 29 and fans of the flagship device are gearing up to purchase the smartphone. One of the factors that make this handset quite popular among the masses is its price point.
Although outfitted with remarkable features and heavy hardware, the OnePlus 6T is sitting on a relatively cheap price mark compared to its competitors. While the Shenzhen-based company hasn’t announced anything yet, rumors would have it that the device will only cost $640, The Inquirer reported.
The predecessor of the OnePlus 6T has also nicely set the foundation for a brand that values what the fans actually want. However, this tradition has been broken this year as the upcoming handset is reportedly not going to have a headphone jack, something that disappointed most of the end users who have been fans since day one.
"When we started OnePlus, we set out to make the best possible smartphone, but making a great phone doesn't mean putting every component available into the [OnePlus 6T]," OnePlus CEO and founder Pete Lau explained. "You've got to make decisions that optimize the user experience, and understand that at times things that provide user value can also add friction.”
Removing the headphone jack of the OnePlus 6T also allowed them to increase the battery life of the device, the company said. What’s more, it also enabled them to slot in a feature that is quite unique among smartphones today.
The feature in question is the relocation of the fingerprint scanner from the back of the handset to its front, specifically located on the bottom part of the OnePlus 6T’s screen. This is a great feature to include to the device since people’s thumb naturally lands on the bottom part of the smartphone anyway.
Of course, the headphones will still be missed by the fans and it’s unclear how the removal will affect the sales performance of the OnePlus 6T. Fans will just have to wait in the coming months to know what exactly the device will bring and how the market will respond to its crucial decision.
