OnePlus 7 will not be having a wireless charging feature as has been confirmed by CEO Pete Lau. The reason behind the decision is that the CEO views wireless charging technology as inferior compared to physical means.
During an interview with CNET, Lau said that the OnePlus 7 still has one of the best charging technology out there, capable of replenishing its battery by 50 percent in 20 minutes. However, the CEO did say that they are working hard to push wireless technology forward that would truly benefit end users. Part of the problem they’re looking into is how to eliminate the overheating of a device when being charge wirelessly.
Due to the technology’s infancy, Lau said that they don’t have a specific timeline when wireless charging will make its way into their products. This is all the information that Lau revealed for OnePlus 7, despite the fact that he was carrying a prototype of the smartphone with him during the interview.
As such, the rumor that the OnePlus 7 will remove the notch and replace it with a pop-up camera will remain speculation for now. There are a lot of things that the company can add to OnePlus 7’s feature.
One of the most highly requested aspects that fans are asking the Shenzhen-based company is the improvement of its camera. Particularly, its performance in a dimly lit room. Fans are hoping that the OnePlus 7’s Nightscape will be on par with Google’s Night Sight and Huawei’s Night Mode.
Another unconfirmed feature is if the OnePlus 7 will have 5G technology. Although the company’s first 5G smartphone was revealed during the recently concluded MWC 2019, they didn’t disclose any details about the device. With regards to the release date of OnePlus 7, it’s been speculated to come out sometime between April and July, although the company hasn’t confirmed this information either.
