The OnePlus 9 series has been mentioned in a new leak claiming a couple of significant upgrades are in the works. Devices included in the lineup are expected to have a display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate and an improved battery.
OnePlus 9 series specs: What new features to expect
There have been scattered reports about the possible specs and features of OnePlus 9 devices over the last month, and a new report this week adds to the clues that the smartphone lineup is already in the pipeline. This time, the information comes from a popular leaker on Weibo known as Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority), offering some details about the base model of the OnePlus 9 and its Pro version.
As mentioned, both devices reportedly sport 120Hz displays, which was a feature previously exclusive to the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8T devices last year. However, the screens of the upcoming smartphones are going to be different in other aspects.
The OnePlus 9 is expected to launch with a 6.55" FHD flat display, while the OnePlus 9 Pro is rumored to have a 6.78" QHD curved display. Both devices are expected to feature a 3.8mm hole punch on the upper left corner of their screens for the selfie camera.
The reported weight of both OnePlus 9 smartphones is about the same as their predecessors as it is not expected to exceed 200 grams. Not surprisingly, both devices will be powered with Snapdragon 888. The battery capacity is anticipated to be around 4,500mAh, which is not much of an improvement from the flagship OnePlus smartphones from 2020.
The Chinese smartphone maker is reportedly making the 65W fast charging tech a standard feature on the OnePlus 9 series. Last year, it was only introduced on OnePlus 8T.
OnePlus 9 release date expected in early 2021
While the OnePlus 9 devices' front side is not expected to look any different, an earlier leak suggested there is a redesign on the rear side focused on the camera bump. An earlier report has also cited the potential launch of a OnePlus 9 Lite model, but the latest leak made no mention of it.
The leaks have not mentioned a release window for the OnePlus 9 series. But its predecessors were released between April and May.
