A set of images reportedly offering the first look at the OnePlus 9 have leaked online months ahead of its anticipated 2021 launch. Aside from a familiar rear camera design, the new information suggests it will receive a display refresh rate boost while maintaining other screen specs.
Leak reveals potential OnePlus 9 design
The images, as first shared by Phone Arena, suggest that the OnePlus 9 will feature old and new display features. The device appears to still have a flat screen similar to its predecessor, the OnePlus 8. The front also looks the same as the smartphone series launched earlier this year, which featured a punch-hole selfie camera on the top left corner of the display.
OnePlus 9’s rear design is a different story, though. It has a substantial camera bump that houses three sensors and a camera flash. The positioning of the lenses and the bump looks more like the OnePlus 8T. But unlike the 8T, the leaked photos suggest the OnePlus 9’s rear camera bump’s color would be similar to the overall finishing of the device.

The same source also provided screenshots from the OnePlus 9 System settings that indicate its screen size is 6.55” with 2400 x 1080 resolution just like the OnePlus 8. However, its frame rate is also listed at 120Hz, which was previously exclusive to the Pro model.
OnePlus 9 specs: What to expect
The OnePlus 9 screenshots also reveal other details about the device’s specs. As expected, it will be shipped with the Android 11 operating system and with fingerprint-scanning support. The leaked device shows it has 128GB storage, and fans can also expect the base RAM capacity to be at 8GB.

While the leaks did not explicitly indicate the use of Snapdragon 888, it is very likely to power the OnePlus 9 series. When the mobile platform was launched earlier this month, Qualcomm thanked its partners and one of the company logos presented was OnePlus. It is a rather clear hint at the OnePlus’ next premium smartphone series to be released with the chip.
OnePlus 9 possible release date in spring 2021?
The predecessors of the OnePlus 9 had release dates in different months, but they all fall within a spring launch. Considering that a fully assembled device has already been leaked at this point, OnePlus is very likely to maintain that launch timeline in 2021.
