It seems 2016 is turning out to be a good year for everything “Final Fantasy,” with “Final Fantasy XIV” finally available across major platforms, “Final Fantasy VII” made available for mobile devices, and “Final Fantasy XV” coming soon. To make the deal even sweeter, the mobile-centric “Mobius Final Fantasy” game is coming to the U.S. sooner than originally presumed, and anyone who pre-orders the title ahead of release will be given special rewards.
“Mobius Final Fantasy” is the original installment to the legendary JRPG franchise which was made specifically for mobile devices. It was released in Japan first and attracted over two million users in the period of two months, according to Game Planet. The game will be coming to North America in August, according to “Square Enix.”
Players can pre-order the game to be among the first to play it, and those who do will receive bonuses like the “Brotherhood” sword of “Tidus” from “FFX” and even a “Yuna” card.
Players will take control of the male character in “MFF” who is named “Wol,” which is an abbreviation of the title “Warrior of Light.” “Wol” will wake up in the world of “Palamecia” and won’t remember a thing about his past. This is a very common plot point in JRPGs, but the game does have over 2 million players in Japan, so it must have some appeal to retain so many users.
In any case, Gamerant notes the other common clichés such as “Wol” fulfilling a prophecy about a legendary warrior who is then expected to bring light, hope and justice to a world bereft of all those things. For anyone who has played any “Final Fantasy” game, all of these elements will be instantly familiar.
Just in case anyone needs convincing to give this title a chance, Yoshinori Kitase is leading the team that is making the game. The story was also written by Kazushige Nojima. Nojima helped write “Final Fantasy 7” and is also currently working on the remake.
