As “Outlander” Season 4 is nearing its premiere, longtime fans of the show are speculating on what’s going to happen in the next installment. One of the most talked about upcoming scenes is the sexual assault that’s going to befall Brianna (Sophia Skelton).
The dark deed is expected to be performed by the show’s new villain, Irish pirate Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers). While it’s still uncertain at this point that the disturbing scene will be portrayed in “Outlander” Season 4, it seems that the showrunners are going to include it, Town and Country reported.
"We have a history of it with the show itself, [so the question becomes] how much of this material is in the show when do we do it, when do we decide not to do it and why are we making that choice,” showrunner Ronald D. Moore said. He added that they’re handling it on a case-to-case basis. And since the scene plays a huge part in the plot moving forward, Moore said it wasn't “really an option not to do it.” Of course, they could opt not to go into detail about it like how other shows handle such scenes.
Moore further explained that the addition of such events is important for the show given how prevalent such crimes were in that era. Indeed, violence is going to be one of the main themes of “Outlander” Season 4 as a revolution is brewing up in the burgeoning lands of America.
Slavery and oppression are heavily implied in the “Outlander” Season 4’s trailer, sparking a lot of speculations that the next installment will be quite disconcerting. Of course, it’s not always going to be this way as Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) romance will still outshine most of these unsettling circumstances.
Mixing both of these themes will create a sort of balance between dark and light tones, giving the show a healthy dose of what life actually was during the time when slavery was the norm. Whatever the case, “Outlander” Season 4 will surely quench the thirst of fans who have been patiently waiting for its release as the fourth installment is slated to air on Nov. 4.
