“Outlander” season 5 has started filming on April 16 and Starz even made an announcement about it. With the opening of the drama’s production, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have officially are officially start their new roles as producers as well. Yes, apart from being Claire and Jamie Fraser in the Highland period drama, the two lead actors are the show’s executives now.
Prior to their promotion as producers in “Outlander” season 5, both Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe revealed their wish to be more involved not just in front of the camera but from behind too. In fact, speaking with BAZAAR last year, the actress said, “We (she and Sam) would both relish more responsibility. I definitely would love to direct down the line, and I think he would too. I would love to be on set when Sam Heughan’s bossing me around."
On the other hand, in a separate interview, the actor also said, "We're hoping next season to have a lot more influence in the characters and the storyline and be a part of that creatively. We've always wanted to be a part of it and to help influence the journey and the story and also to be the guardians of our characters and protect that."
At any rate, as the filming for “Outlander” season 5 starts, Starz released the first photo of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe in their respective character’s costume. Aside from this, the cast also updated their social media with behind-the-scene snaps so there are lots of spoilers already even before the show returns.
Plot - What to Expect
The trailer for “Outlander” season 5 is not yet available but as mentioned on Entertainment Weekly, the synopsis for the upcoming installment was already released and part of it reads: “Outlander” season 5 reads: “Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task - and protecting it proves even more difficult - particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina, during a period of dramatic sociopolitical upheaval. As Claire knows all too well, friends, neighbors and countrymen are unwittingly marching towards Revolution, with members of the elite ruling classes struggling to stifle the alarming undercurrent of unrest triggered by the Regulator Movement.”
