There is little to no doubt that “Overlord” season 4 of the anime series will be released. But, unfortunately, fans might need to wait much longer than anticipated.
In a recent report, OtakuKart suggested that one of the main reasons why “Overlord” season 4 could not premiere in 2019 is the availability of light novel volumes. At the moment, the latest light novel released is the 13th volume. The third season of the anime series, technically, covered the eighth and ninth volumes.
At this rate, the possible ending for “Overlord” season 4 has the potential to catch up with the source material. That is something the producers will want to avoid for several reasons including preventing the light novel fans from getting disappointed.
To avoid the anime series from catching up with the light novels, it is suggested that the making of “Overlord” season 4 might only commence in 2019. In that case, a 2020 premiere would be more likely.
Others speculate that the release of “Overlord” season 4 might not happen until 2021. Monster & Critics said there is a possibility that Madhouse, the studio in charge of making the anime series, might wait until light novel volume 15 is out before starting their work on new episodes.
It can be recalled that season 1 ended in 2015 and season 2 was released about three years later. So speaking of this possible delays is not that surprising. The reason why seasons 2 and 3 were released close to each other was that those installments were a split-cour. The same strategy might be applied in “Overlord” season 4 that could lead to a 2020 premiere and with the second half dropping in 2021.
To recap, Ainz was successful in establishing the Sorcerer Kingdom by seizing control of E-Rantel. Ainz was coldly received by the people of E-Rantel because of sheer fear. But it was later revealed that he assigned Momon to oversee a now orderly E-Rantel and act as the city’s primary enforcer of the law. Once the main protagonist returns in “Overlord” season 4, anime fans will witness him having some difficulties in decision-making with regards to the decreasing amount of resources in his domain.
