“Overlord” season 4 has yet to be renewed, but since the anime series has a lot of followers, the studio that brought it to the television which is Madhouse will not let its popularity pass. This means to say that sooner or later fans will eventually see the announcement about its renewal.
Now, while fans wait for “Overlord” season 4, it can’t be helped that news and speculations about the animation are spread online. One of the news is that Kugane Maruyama, the author of the original novel series from which the anime was based, had hinted that the show would already end after the fourth or fifth installment.
This was also discussed by fans on Reddit, and they affirmed that Maruyama mentioned a few years back that he intended to end his novel series at 20 volumes. If this is the case, then it is like confirming that “Overlord” season 7 or 8 would be the finale. This is because the story will only be enough to complete up the said seasons.
So far, Kugane Maruyama already completed 13 volumes, and the 14th is expected to be released in the last part of 2019 or early 2020. Since the series’ seasons 1 to 3 already used up the first nine volumes, then it means that five volumes are available to be converted into “Overlord” season 4.
However, once Madhouse Studio adapts the finished novels for a new installment, there will be no more left for the fifth season to be based on. Apparently, this is the reason why “Overlord” season 4 is delayed - it is simply due to the lack of sufficient materials for the story to be adapted for television.
Clearly, Madhouse must wait for Kugane Maruyama to write more volumes so it can begin the production of “Overlord” season 4 and the next after that. Writing a story is also not easy and could take time; thus it all depends on the author if the anime could arrive sooner or later.
In addition to the insufficient materials to work on for “Overlord” season 4, OtakuKart reported that Madhouse is also understaffed so the studio must hire new employees first so they can complete the project in a timely manner. It was predicted that the fourth season of the anime series is arriving in the last quarter of 2020.
