PTC Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTCT) has authorization to buy back as much as $500 million in shares, but management controls whether purchases happen and when, leaving the board’s approval short of a spending commitment.

The program covers PTC common stock. The company said management may buy shares in public markets, use trading plans set up in advance, negotiate private deals, arrange accelerated repurchases or use other methods allowed by securities laws. PTC did not provide a start date, a target share count or a deadline for the program.

Chief Executive Officer Matthew B. Klein, M.D., said the authorization reflects management’s “deep conviction in the strength of the Company.” He said it also preserves flexibility for existing programs and potential business-development transactions.

PTC develops and commercializes medicines for people with rare disorders. Revenue totaled $357.807 million in the three months ended Sept. 30, 2026, compared with $211.007 million in the same period of 2025. The company reported $2,127.9 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities as of Sept. 30. Its quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission listed 83,535,767 shares issued and outstanding on that date.

On Oct. 29, PTC raised its 2026 total revenue forecast to $1.29 billion to $1.32 billion. It also increased its product revenue range to $960 million to $990 million, from a previous range of $850 million to $950 million. EconoTimes’ coverage of the revised outlook reported that third-quarter net product revenue reached $275.9 million, up from $131 million a year earlier, with Sephience contributing $181.9 million.

PTC’s buyback announcement did not identify a funding source or say whether this authority supplements another repurchase program. The company expects to complete a biologics license application submission for its ST-920 Fabry disease gene therapy in the fourth quarter of 2026.
