AURORA, Ill., Nov. 14, 2017 -- After a thorough review period, Painters District Council No. 30 (PDC 30) announced it will award its community service grant to Mutual Ground, an Aurora-based nonprofit organization that breaks the cycle of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
The community service grant consists of volunteer labor done by PDC 30 tradespeople. The Mutual Ground shelter will get professional interior and exterior painting, new walls and new doors—all completely free of charge.
“It’s the least we can do for an organization like Mutual Ground,” said Ryan Anderson, Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of PDC 30. “The work we’ll do in their shelter will directly impact the people who use their services. We hope the work we perform helps them feel just a little bit more cared for, loved and safe.”
Every year, Mutual Ground provides services to roughly 1,500 victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. They get over 1,500 calls to their hotline every month. Breaking the cycle of violence takes immense courage, and Mutual Ground gives those strong individuals shelter and counseling at no charge.
“Our committee felt strongly about Mutual Ground’s organization and vision,” Anderson said. “The next steps are to assess the facility in person and schedule the work. We hope to complete the project by the beginning of December.”
Mutual Ground counts on the generosity of others to remain open, so if you would like to make a donation or volunteer, click here to visit their Get Involved page. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. Mutual Ground’s 24-hour domestic violence hotline is 630-897-0080 and their 24-hour sexual assault hotline is 630-897-8383.
