Periscope, the live streaming app, announced major updates for its iOS and Android apps – a revamped Global Map, Skip Ahead on replays, 3D touch shortcuts for latest iPhones and zoom on android. The announcement was made via Medium.
Global Map was first launched in June, but had some limitations. It did not show replays and was limited to a total of 250 broadcasts. Now, with the new map, whenever a user zooms to a new place, Periscope will reload broadcasts from the region, including replays from the last 24 hours. Red dots represent live broadcasts, while blue dots are replays.
Keeping in mind that sometimes users, while watching replays, want to fast-forward to a certain segment, the company has now enabled users to ‘skip ahead’ on replays.
“Just press down while watching the replay, and drag left and right. You can even drag up and down to change the seek speed. And while you’re seeking, with your finger still pressed down, you’ll see a preview of that moment in the broadcast”, the online post explains.
Moreover, the company also introduced pinch to zoom on Android, which lets a user to zoom in and out while broadcasting.
Periscope also added 3D Touch shortcuts for iPhone 6s and 6s plus users. Pressing down on the app icon will present users the options to Search People; Teleport that will take user to a random place in the world and show a live broadcast from there; Broadcast Mutuals that will start a private broadcast that only a user’s mutual followers can see; and Broadcast that will quickly start a broadcast.
