Pizza Hut is celebrating Japan’s annual tsukimi tradition with two limited-time moon-viewing pizzas, each featuring eggs as a symbolic full moon ingredient. Available from August 26 to October 14, the pizzas come with an exclusive shadow picture box, adding a unique twist to the seasonal offering.
Pizza Hut Celebrates Tsukimi with Limited-Time Pizzas Featuring Unique Shadow Picture Box Innovation
Every autumn in Japan, people participate in the “tsukimi,” or “moon-viewing,” to honor the harvest moon. This beautiful tradition, deeply rooted in Japanese culture, is a time to appreciate the beauty of the full moon and celebrate the bountiful harvest. This year, the harvest moon is set to rise on September 17. Pizza Hut is marking the occasion with two special moon-viewing pizzas, each accompanied by a unique “shadow picture box,” an industry-first innovation. But remember, this is a limited-time offer, available only from August 26 to October 14. Take advantage of this unique culinary experience!
The first two moon-viewing items on the menu are the medium and large pizzas. Both feature eggs as the star ingredient, symbolizing the full moon.
The Tsukimi Mayochiki pizza, priced at 1,900 yen (US$13.20) for takeout and 2,790 yen for delivery, is topped with two melty soft-boiled eggs and cheese. Flame-grilled teriyaki chicken and a rich mayonnaise sauce complement the pizza for a flavorful experience.
The Tsukimi Bulgogi pizza, available at 2,120 yen for takeout and 3,140 yen for delivery, offers a spicy kick with its combination of bulgogi beef, gochujang (a red chili paste), melty eggs, and cheese, all rounded out with mayonnaise.
Solo Diners Can Enjoy Tsukimi with Pizza Hut's My Box and Limited-Edition Shadow Picture Box
According to SoraNews24, these pizzas are also available in "My Box" versions for solo diners, with smaller portions designed for individual consumption. These are priced at 1,090 yen for takeout or 1,400 yen for delivery.
Adding an element of fun, the medium-sized tsukimi pizzas come with a unique “Shadow Picture Box,”available in limited quantities. In Japanese culture, rabbits are associated with the moon, as people often see a rabbit pounding rice on the moon’s surface rather than the "man on the moon" seen in many Western countries. While there’s no rabbit in these pizzas, they will only be available briefly, from August 26 to October 14. With limited quantities, this unique culinary experience is not to be missed!
