The promotional tagline, “You’re not gonna eat me because I’m not cute, right?” hints at its unusual appearance. Despite the name, there are no actual explosives involved. Instead, the Landmine Pizza draws inspiration from a Japanese fashion trend, giving it its unique title. The full name of the pizza is the Jirai-kei Ikasumi Yummy-ochi Pizza. In Japanese, "jirai" means "landmine," but jirai-kei, or "landmine-type," refers to a subculture within Japanese fashion that combines traditionally cute, bright aesthetics with a darker, edgier twist. The pizza mirrors this concept with its surprising and unconventional appearance.

The Jirai-kei Ikasumi Yummy-ochi Pizza embodies this fashion trend by featuring a black truffle squid ink (Kasumi) sauce drizzled over shrimp, other seafood, black olives, semi-dried tomatoes, and cheese. Adding rice to the squid ink sauce adds yet another unexpected element to this creation, pushing the boundaries of what a pizza can be.

According to Pizza Hut Japan (via SoraNews24), the pizza reflects Generation Z’s growing interest in darker aesthetics, often characterized by makeup and clothing in black and other deep hues. “We thought it would be super-interesting to express the concept of Mirai-kei in the form of a pizza,” the company explains, acknowledging that they aimed to create a pizza with a shocking appearance that might make customers hesitate initially but will leave them pleasantly surprised by its flavor.

As customers indulge in the Jirai-kei Ikasumi Yummy-ochi Pizza, Pizza Hut promises a unique experience—like eating pizza and paella simultaneously due to the combination of rice and seafood. To elevate the experience further, the pizza comes with a “Descent into Darkness Smokey Cheese Sauce,” allowing diners to adjust the flavor as they please.

Priced at 2,480 yen (approximately $17.75) for a medium size, the Jirai-kei Ikasumi Yummy-ochi Pizza can also be ordered with additional sides, including honey mustard or yangnyeom chicken for 2,970 yen, or apple pie slices for 2,830 yen. Available now at 578 selected Pizza Hut locations in Japan, the pizza will be sold until December 1 or while supplies last.
