The console wars are inching closer to its next phase, and Sony has done a remarkable job positioning the PlayStation 5 ahead of the pack. At the moment, this device is the most desired console out there as it’s been outfitted with jaw-dropping hardware.
The PlayStation 5’s CPU will be coming from AMD's third-generation Ryzen series that has eight cores of the new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. It supports 8K resolutions on TV. And will be having a 3D audio that will further immerse a gamer into the world of a given title, IGN reported.
Cerny himself weighed in on this PlayStation 5 feature and explained their thought process why they decided to give emphasis on this front. “As a gamer, it's been a little bit of a frustration that audio did not change too much between PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. With the next console the dream is to show how dramatically different the audio experience can be when we apply significant amounts of hardware horsepower to it,” Cerny said.
It would be interesting to see how this new 3D audio technology will amplify the immersive experience of titles like “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” What’s more, shooting games like “Apex Legends,” where listening to audio cues are significant in identifying upcoming enemies is also expected to benefit from this feature. And if that’s not impressive enough, Sony has given the PlayStation 5 with a solid-state drive and a GPU capable of providing the console with ray tracing technology.
Both these features are the most discussed aspect of the upcoming console as they will significantly provide a smoother and more enticing gaming experience. The SSD’s capabilities have already been showed off by Sony to be quite the beast as it can drastically decrease the load times of a game. But the same could not be said with the PlayStation 5’s ray tracing technology.
However, talented individuals have already begun to create mock-ups how this feature will improve a game’s graphics. Among them is Pascal Glitcher who made a video about ray tracing technology and how the PlayStation 5 compares to its predecessor graphics-wise. Regarding its release date, nothing has been confirmed just yet, but speculations would have it that it might come out in the fall of 2020. Meanwhile, its price is expected to stay at a competitive level as Sony analyst Hideki Yasuda is predicting it will only cost $499.
