Last month, Sony released an invitation for the launching of PlayStation 5. It was supposed to be held on June 4, but due to the Black Lives Matter protests crisis following the death of George Floyd, the tech company deemed it proper to postpone the event.
Canceled PS5 event
Sony further stated that they decided to cancel the PlayStation 5 event to stand back and let more important voices to be heard. The company announced the cancellation on June 2.
“While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration,” part of Sony’s statements reads via Twitter.
Protests have erupted across America and it started since the black American man, Floyd, was killed by the police in Minneapolis. With the calls for the end of violence, police brutality and discrimination, Sony showed its support to the Black Lives Matter movement by using its financial resources and platforms, as per CNN.
The introduction of PlayStation
Jim Ryan, CEO and president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed the previous report about the PlayStation 5 event through a blog post on PlayStation’s official website. He announced that the event is happening on June 4 and it will be an hour-long stream that will begin at 9 p.m.
He shared that they will provide more details about the much-awaited gaming console. Ryan said that the PlayStation 5 will redefine the future of video games with its amazing features and technical specifications. He also mentioned about the new DualSense wireless controller that will make gaming even more fun and comfortable.
"That's why I'm excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you'll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday," he wrote on the blog. "The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe.”
However, as mentioned earlier, this event has been canceled and it is not certain if it will still be taking place later. At any rate, PlayStation 5 has been confirmed to be released this holiday season and there was no mention if Sony is also postponing this schedule.
