All through last week, the servers that allow PlayStation 3 and 4 players to go online have been experiencing issues. This meant that some players were unable to access multiplayer mode or purchase microtransactions. For others, it meant being unable to play certain games altogether due to online connectivity requirements.
Fixes have been deployed but it seems the issues still persist as of writing, GameSpot reports. This is the third time through last week that the network has had issues connecting players to the internet. In a time when online connectivity is crucial to the enjoyment of many games, such problems are often a cause of major concern among players.
The problems are particularly terrible in terms of their timing since both Dragon Ball FighterZ and Monster Hunter World are out in the wild now. While both games can be played offline, many players bought the games specifically to play with others in multiplayer mode. In the case of the fighting game, it’s the online matches that count, while the monster hunting title allows multiple hunters to work together and take down tough prey.
At this point, connectivity is finicky for users, with some having no problems connecting at all while others are unable to connect for hours on end. As Forbes notes, Sony wasn’t the only company to have these issues either since Microsoft has been having trouble with its own online service.
The beta for the Xbox One exclusive pirating simulator Sea of Thieves had problems providing access to many of those who pre-ordered. This can be particularly frustrating for players who actually planned their time around these games, with many of the fans having jobs to keep them away from playing.
What’s more, both online services are paid. This means that the players are not getting their money’s worth from these services.
