A State of Play event is happening this week, Sony confirmed Tuesday. Gaming fans can expect a presentation of teasers for upcoming PlayStation games coming from Sony’s studios and third-party developers.
State of Play: When and where to watch
The next State of Play broadcast is confirmed for Thursday, Feb. 25. Like Sony’s previous presentations, it will be accessible to all gamers worldwide for free through a couple of online streaming channels.
Fans can watch this week’s State of Play through the official PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels. The presentation is expected to run for 30 minutes and will start at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET.
State of Play 2021: What to expect
A broadcast of 30 minutes means there is going to be a long enough list of game presentations happening on Thursday. While Sony’s announcement did not say which games will be included in the program, the company teased it will unveil updates and deep dive trailers for 10 games launching on both PS4 and PS5 consoles.
The 10-game list is also not limited to Sony Interactive Entertainment studios. The State of Play will feature titles from third-party and indie developers that were part of the PlayStation presentation last June. Sony also hinted at “new game announcements” as part of the Thursday event.
Some of the most likely titles to be included in the next State of Play are confirmed first-party games such as “Returnal” and ”Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” that will arrive on PS5 in April and June, respectively. “Horizon Forbidden West” is also one of the anticipated games from SIE this year that will be included in the Thursday affair and was recently confirmed to launch sometime in the second half of 2021. Sony confirmed that “Gran Turismo 7” has been delayed to 2022, but it would not be surprising to see a new teaser for the PS5 game this week.
Announcements not to expect from this week’s State of Play
Traditionally, State of Play events are focused on upcoming games. There have been times when Sony used it as a venue for hardware updates, but Thursday’s broadcast will not be one of them. “There won’t be PlayStation hardware or business-focused updates in this show,” Sony said.
