Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco was one of the most anticipated smartphone makers to announce its newest device this year. The widely dubbed Pocophone F2 was expected to have its global launch in 2019 following a successful debut last year. But with barely two weeks left before the New Year, it starts to feel like it is time to stop hoping for the device launch this year.
However, it may not necessarily mean that Pocophone F2 will not make a comeback in 2020. Some fans have actually started expecting the device to be announced next year, especially after a cryptic tweet from Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s global vice president, and managing director for its India operations.
Pocophone F2 release date slated in late 2020?
Last September, Jain shared a tweet that seems like an ordinary update-from-the-office post. But upon closer inspection by eagle-eyed fans, they noticed that the whiteboard behind Jain appears to be showing F2 written under what seems like a calendar timeline.
The timeline starts with number 3 that could be referring to the month of March and ends in 12, which may be referring to December. Under the numbers 11 and 12, “F2?” can be seen written in a red marker. This has led to speculations that it might be hinting at the release date window of Pocophone F2.

Some have argued that the timeline is unlikely representative of a 2019 calendar. The photo was captured and shared in late September. The same timeline has what looks like “Mi pad” written in red marker and under the number 5, which could mean a May launch. Since there was no new model of Mi Pad announced last May, tech fans who have seen the tweet suggested that it might be a 2020 calendar. Thus, the speculations on a late 2020 release date for Pocophone F2.
Pocophone F2: Is the smartphone lineup canceled?
Unfortunately, Xiaomi and Poco executives have yet to recognize Pocophone F2 and say whether the device is in development or not. So despite a very interesting Twitter photo from Jain, all speculations should always be taken with a grain of salt.
On the other hand, the company has also not said anything about canceling Pocophone F2. Even Poco India general manager Manmohan Chandolu appears to confirm that he is aware of so many fans subtly are still looking forward to the unannounced device.
