Next week will see one of the most special events in the history of “Pokemon GO,” because Celebi is finally going to become available to everyone. Often considered one of the most adorable Pokemon in the franchise’s universe, this grass-type/psychic Pokemon is capable of manipulating time. It’s also going to be available via a special quest that all players can join.
This is actually the second time that Celebi is making an appearance in “Pokemon GO,” with the mythical Pokemon also having been featured for a limited time during the recent “Pokemon GO” Fest, Forbes reports. The questline for obtaining this adorable little critter will be a special research event. Before accessing this quest, though, players will first need to pass the third phase.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it is speculated that a gold Pokedex badge from the Johto region might be necessary to unlock Celebi in the “Pokemon Go” event. A gold badge from the Kanto region was needed to unlock Mew last time, so this thought process does have its merits.
It’s unlikely that the steps for gaining access to Celebi will be the same as that during the “Pokemon GO” Fest, which involved catching a lot of Unown. This would not be the easiest goal to accomplish in an everyday setting, after all. So it would make sense for Niantic to provide a more reasonable challenge to players next week.
For fans of the franchise, the significance of Celebi’s appearance in “Pokemon GO” cannot be understated. This is one of the rarest Pokemon to have ever existed and is one of the most difficult to obtain in the games, Polygon points out. Being able to catch it via the massively popular mobile game app is bound to provide long-time Pokemon players with plenty of satisfaction once the event launches on Monday, August 20.
