Poland’s retail sales growth likely slowed marginally in September. According to a Societe Generale research note, retail sales growth are expected to have decelerated to 5 percent year-on-year in September from 5.6 percent growth in August. In sequential terms, the growth in retail sales is anticipated to have slowed to 1.1 percent in September.
In August, growth in retail sales was predominantly driven by textiles, clothing & footwear sales, food & beverages sales and other retail sales in non-specialized stores. Industry representatives stated that the sharp rise in fuel sales were due to introduction of new regulations in August against illegal trade.
It might be one of the most vital and optimistic factors in retail sales growth in the months ahead, stated Societe Generale. Real retail sales growth might have come in at 6.6 percent year-on-year in September. SAMAR data showed that new passenger car and van registrations in the country rose in September by 16.8 percent annually, a slowdown from 24.3 percent year-on-year growth in August.
