'Preacher' Season 1, Episode 9 Spoilers: "Finish the Song" - Jesse Tries to Run from Problems But Can He Escape Unharmed?

Dominic Cooper stars as Jesse on AMC's 'Preacher'

‘Preacher’ season 1’s episode 9, entitled “Finish the Song”, is set to follow Jesse as he tries to escape the mess he created for himself.

The synopsis posted on Comicbook.com stated, "Jesse is on the run, while those around him face life-altering decisions. Meanwhile, the Cowboy returns to Ratwater to exact his revenge." The upcoming episode will be the penultimate episode before season 1 of the black comedy and supernatural television series comes to a close.

Episode 9 will follow Jesse (Dominic Cooper) as he is running from the self-inflicted mess he got himself into. According to an article on Carter Matt, the incoming episode may alter the course of the next season either with Jesse finally identifying himself differently or if some major character dies.

The return of the Cowboy, a character based on one of the main antagonists in the original comic books named the Saint of Killers, may also shift the show’s story arc.

In the preceding episode, entitled “El Valero”, things took a turn for the worst – and the gross. Jesse had to fight off Odin Quinncannon (Jackie Earle Haley) and his goons from taking his church, which Quinncannon believed was rightfully his because of a bet. In addition, Jesse also experienced hallucinations that led him to believe that he finally managed to pull Eugene (Ian Colleti) out of hell.

Furthermore, he decided that it was best to surrender Genesis to Adephi angels Fiore (Tom Brooke) and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef) since he wasn’t doing much good with his powers anyway – given that the angels will have to rescue Eugene from the netherworld afterwards.

Genesis’ extraction out of Jesse seemed successful enough but the angels didn’t want to keep their end of the bargain and proceeded to pack up and leave. Jesse demanded that they keep their promise but the two admitted that they didn’t know how to rescue Eugene.

This confrontation causes Genesis to re-enter Jesse and the angels resolved that they may have to go for another method of removal. Meanwhile, Tulip (Ruth Negga) helped Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) recuperate by feeding him dogs.

According to Comic Book Movie, the series follows a small-town preacher named Jesse who becomes possessed with an angel-demon entity called Genesis. This gives him highly developed powers, which he struggles to use while attempting to find God. He is joined by his Irish vampire friend Cassidy and ex-girlfriend Tulip on his mission.

‘Preacher’ season 1’s episode 9, entitled “Finish the Song", is scheduled to premiere on AMC on July 24, 2016.
