Prince William and Kate Middleton have tied the knot seven years ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s, and while the royal couples share some things in common, their relationships are strikingly different. One of the most noticeable differences is that the older couple is less affectionate with each other compared to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Also, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are more secretive when it comes to going public with their relationship while Prince Harry and his wife are more open with their romance. The “Fab 4” as they are called, are four different people who have their own personalities, so it is obvious why their relationships are different as well.
Which couple shows more PDA?
Apparently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle show more public display of affection. They hold hands, kiss and even hug in public while on the other hand, William and Kate are very cautious and mindful of their actions in public that is why they are rarely seen being affectionate towards each other.
According to The Daily Mail, the reason why Harry and Meghan hold hands while Prince George’s parents don’t is because while there is no written rule that says PDA is not allowed, the royal family was taught to follow Queen Elizabeth’s lead. She set the standard that being affectionate in public is distasteful and Cambridge’s preferred to follow this standard.
"The Queen rarely holds hands with her husband in public, and this seems to have set an unwritten precedent for the other royals," Robin Kermode, a body language expert told the publication. “It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love – particularly when on official state business.”
The couple’s closeness as husband and wife
In royal events, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle always greet the crowd together. They would shake hands and talk to the people side by side, but Prince William and Kate Middleton always do it separately. Does this mean they are not close as the younger ones?
It was explained that Harry and Meghan’s partnership is strong, and this shows when they are attending to their engagements. Their support and understanding for each other shows when they talk to people, but this does not mean that Kate and William do not have this kind of partnership. In fact, they are emotionally in sync but just find it more comfortable when they work separately.
