Daily commuters know the pain of spending quite a lot of time in their cars while in idle due to harsh traffic jams. This would be time better spent on work, especially when nearing a deadline. Well, one designer looked at this problem and decided to build a car that can actually work as a mobile office. Enter Project Redscape’s car called REDS, which might just be the weirdest concept car of the year.
Showed off during the Los Angeles Auto Show, the fully electric car was designed by Chris Bangle who, as CNET notes, is one of the most daring car designers in the business. He is responsible for BMW 7 Series E65-generation’s “flaming surface” design language, for example, which was not exactly popular with everyone.
In any case, REDS is equipped with features that are not exactly standard with most of today’s cars. For example, its driver’s seat can swivel to face the back when the car is in idle and commuters can work on their computers or tablets via the foldable tray table. To create enough room for when the seat is turned, the steering wheel even flips forward towards the windshield.
The other seats are also modular in their position and can be moved so that the legroom distribution suits the needs of the passengers and driver, Engadget reports. The door also slides open like that of a van, but on a car that looks more like a lunchbox.
So far, there has been no mention of autonomous driving, which is strange since it would have been perfect for a car like REDS. After all, if it is equipped with Level 4 or 5 self-driving technology, commuters could literally work on projects as they drive towards their workplace and back. There wouldn’t be a need to waste time during traffic again.
