Queen Elizabeth recently honored Kate Middleton with the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order amidst the Duchess of Cambridge’s celebration of her eight wedding anniversary, PEOPLE reported. The rank means that Middleton has been accepted into knighthood, allowing her to use the honorific “Dame” as a style before her name.
The appointment comes days before Queen Elizabeth’s service of the Royal Victorian Order slated to occur on May 3. It will be held at Windsor Castle in St. George’s Chapel.
With Queen Elizabeth’s recent announcement, Kate Middleton has joined the ranks of the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex. The former was appointed in 2012 on her seventh wedding anniversary, while the latter was awarded the rank in 2010 after being with Prince Edward for 10 years.
Joining the Royal Victorian Order is quite the prestigious honor for Kate Middleton as Queen Elizabeth personally chooses who is awarded the rank. It is a sign of the palace’s recognition of those who provided great service for the crown.
It also dispels the recent rumor claiming that Queen Elizabeth reprimanded Kate Middleton for wearing the wrong clothing when out in public. The whispers began when celebrity journalist Ashley Pearson claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge is often being “sent notes” to remind her what she’s allowed to wear, Express reported.
There’s also the persisting rumor that Meghan Markle is at odds with the Royal Family; the narrative being reinvigorated during Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. Last week, fans of the royal household were quick to point out that the photo chosen by the Kensington Palace to greet Queen Elizabeth on Instagram is missing the Duchess of Sussex. Some believe that this may have been intentional, a subtle hint at the ongoing feud that is supposedly brewing within the royals. Of course, Kensington Palace has not acknowledged these rumors altogether and simply treats them as, well, rumors.
