Queen Elizabeth granted Prince William permission to do this after considering his burden as the future king

Prince William and Queen Elizabeth

Prince William is the second in line the throne, and throughout his life, he lived in this position. This means that all his life he carried an invisible burden since there are lots of expectations from him plus, he is being trained to become the king since he was a child.

Now, knowing that the prince’s life is not easy, Queen Elizabeth was said to have decided to ease her grandson’s a bit by freeing him from some of his royal duties when he was younger. According to Express, Her Majesty allowed the Duke of Cambridge to “resist duty and prioritize his immediate family” despite his position as the second in line to the throne.

The Queen gave Prince William more freedom

In a piece of new information that was taken from an old podcast record, it was said that since Prince William will become a king in the future when his father Prince Charles vacates the throne after taking it from Queen Elizabeth in case of death or retirement, Her Majesty decided to give him more freedom and so he can enjoy his life and live normally as much as he can.

Based on the report, in the BBC Radio 5 podcast that was broadcast in 2017 titled the “Images of Diana,” Natasha Kaplinsky, a journalist, shared how Princess Diana expressed her wish for her sons to have more freedom despite their designation as heirs to the crown in the British Monarchy.

Kaplinsky was also with royal expert Camilla Tominey during the podcast, and the latter reportedly said back then, “There’s a sense very much that they want to do things their own way. There’s been a little bit of resisting doing duty, and indeed William has prioritized his immediate family over and above the Firm.”

Media blackout for Prince William

Furthermore, it was mentioned the Duke of Cambridge was also granted a media blackout while he was in college at the University of St. Andrews. The Queen gave him this so he could live like any other ordinary students like his classmates. This grant also extended to the time when he became a pilot at the Royal Air Force and East Anglian Air Ambulance where he also asked people to treat him like anybody else despite his royal status.
