The Redmi K40 series is one of the most anticipated Android device lineups this year, and it is launching in the coming weeks. Along with the launch confirmation, some details on the technical specs have also appeared in a new leak.
Redmi K40 series is launching this month
The announcement of Redmi K40's imminent launch was posted through the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo (via GizmoChina). The launch poster is not hiding the fact that the upcoming event will be all about the Redmi K40 devices.
The teaser image features a huge text that reads "K40" along with the Feb. 25 event date. Since the announcement was made through Weibo, this means the launch will be held in China. However, the upcoming smartphone series is likely to launch in other regions later this year.
While the teaser is not very secretive about the Redmi K40 launch, it still leaves many things to be desired. It does not mention anything about the specs or new features of the upcoming devices. The poster's main attraction is a black smartphone box that is mostly covered by a black curtain.
Redmi K40 series specs: What to expect
As the Redmi K40 launch is confirmed, a few details about the upcoming devices also appeared in a new leak. There are at least two devices to be launched in the series -- the base model Redmi K40 and the Redmi K40 Pro.
An About section screenshot appeared online reportedly from a Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro. There are several interesting similarities between the two devices. For one, the leak suggests they will share the same display specs with a 6.81" AMOLED screen and 3200 x 1440 resolution.
This led to speculations that both devices could have a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ features. If this tallies with the announcement on Feb. 25, this should be considered a bigger upgrade for the Redmi K40 Pro. Last year, the supposedly high-end premium model Redmi K30 Pro was released with just a standard refresh rate, while the vanilla Redmi Redmi K30 had a 120Hz refresh rate.
The screenshots also show a 6GB RAM for the Redmi K40 and 12GB RAM Redmi K40 Pro. But the upcoming devices are likely arriving with other configurations -- 6GB and 8GB for the base model and an additional 12GB variant for the premium variant.
The Redmi K40 Pro will sport a bigger 5,000mAh battery, while the Redmi K40 is powered with a 4,500mAh component. For the cameras, both devices appear to sport a 108-megapixel main camera. The selfie cameras on both upcoming smartphones are listed with 30MP capacity.
